The '67 is my favorite year Mustang. I currently own 3 T5 trannys - all Chevy versions. Lets's just say I can't decide what to do, so I like having options. Ha!

I agree that all of the factory cooling methods should work fine. Another factor necessary is having the proper fan shroud. My engine is .030 over. Adding electric fan cooling will help in those "stuck in traffic" moments. I had my radiator checked prior to installing. I can't comment on the condition of the block. I'm getting to drive my car more now that it runs well after the new distributor installation.

Wow, really nice looking Galaxie! I'm looking for a set of wheels like the ones on your 500 for my 67 Mustang, Happen to know the model/name or what they came off?
Thanks for the compliment. The wheels on my 66 Galaxie are called Appliance Wiremag and are no longer made. The woven spokes are really not a spokes, but are cast into the metal (aluminum). They were popular in the early and mid seventies. I think your best chance to find some would be cruising some junkyards and watching eBay. Every once in a while, I will run across an older vehicle with Wiremags and the owner has no idea what they are or how nice they can look if polished.

If it was running rough and a new distritor replacement was needed, sounds like the shaft might have had a fair bit of slack in it. $45 is very cheap!
Yep! Slack in the shaft. Now it feels like a new car. Just gotta get some better cooling and I'll drive the tires off the thing.

Ok, so I finally have a car that runs properly. For over 3 years now, I have been driving my 66 Galaxie 500 with a 289 and did NOT realize that it SHOULD BE running better than it was. I dismissed the only fair drivability to the fact that it only had a 289ci and it was a BIG car. Lately, I was getting a lot of stumbling and even a few stalls at the light on a perfectly warm engine. Local shop took a look at it. "You need a new distributor" they said. About 2 hours of labor (yeah, I've never replaced one before) and only $45 less in my wallet and now I have a car that RUNS GREAT!
I'm delighted AND MAD all at the same time. Better throttle performance, power, easier starts, shorter warm ups are some of the things I've seen and I know I'll get better MPG. So why am I mad too? I have missed out on nearly 3 years of great driving because of this unrecognized problem.
Sorry I can't write more now. Gotta go and drive my car some more!

I put all my stuff together from individual components. I started with a good aluminum radiator. The fans I used were aftermarket ones. If I had the room between my engine and radiator I would have used a Lincoln MarkVIII fan. That is hands down the best fan choice on the market, assuming you have enough clearance. I used a control module from the local auto parts store. It is adjustable and has a probe that mounts in the radiator. Works well but I wish I could have fit the Mark VIII fan.
My friend pointed out that my radiator cap was old and didn't hold pressure. I replaced it and sure enough, my temp stays 185 - 190 now. I still plan to upgrade to an electric fan. Summit racing recommends 2800 - 3000 cfm for a small block V8.

I've seen my temp gauge climb above 190 - 200 too many times now. Hot days here in SC make it too risky to drive my 66 Galaxie with a stock 289.
You installed an electric fan on your 62.
What advice do you have for me. I need something that I can understand. If I get a fan from the junkyard, I won't know what to look for or what to do.
I expect a kit would have the fan, a temp sensor and a switch plus all the clips and stuff to attach it.
Recommendations?
Help please.
