I just bought a new fuel tank for my 1961 Mercury Monterey, and it seems like the lock ring that came with it is too small and not getting tight enough. The tabs on the lock ring are against tabs on the tank and I did it by hand easily. I did install the supplied seal. I’ve never done this before so I figured I’d ask on here to see if someone can see a mistake I’m making.  I will attach some pictures once I figure out how to.

I just filled my 9" rear end on my project car a few weeks ago, and I noticed a small puddle of oil under it yesterday. It's leaking at the 3rd member connection. Is there a gasket between there that I might need to replace or something? The car doesn't run or drive yet, it's just been sitting there.

After further inspection I found a metal plug that popped off. Thanks for the help.

Thanks guys. I'm going to try to make some time in the next few days to get out there and take another look at it.

I can't find a rubber plug on the back, that's why I'm confused.

Is there a brake adjustment screw on a 1961 Mercury? I'm just curious because I can't find one. How do you adjust the brakes otherwise?

Welcome to the forum!!  I am a huge fan of the SBF  I have a 302 in my 62 and the car gets up and moves.  I have a 351W waiting to go in it so that it moves a little faster.  I ditched the FE engine I had because I could make good power for less $$ with a SBF.

Thanks! I've mostly been considered big blocks, but maybe I should consider an SBF too. I don't need it to be a 9 second car or anything, but I want it to be a quick street car when done.

Hello. I just joined. I recently got my first project car, a 1961 Monterey that needs a lot of work to get going. I wasn't initially looking for such a big car, but my wife thought it was cool too and there's plenty of room for car seats haha. Plus I've always been a Ford guy so I went for it. The 390 in it is seized solid, so I'm on the search for an engine, not necessarily another 390! Anyway, I joined to hopefully get some good advice throughout this project. Thanks.
