Brake proportioning valve leak=69 Ford XL,

I had to stand on my brakes yesterday and now the proportioning valve is leaking out of the plastic switch port. I don't have an idiot light connected. Thoughts on just removing it and plugging the hole? The valve itself is new. It's a 4 drum system.
69 Ford XL, 429 with a 4 speed convertible.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Re: Brake proportioning valve leak=69 Ford XL,

I'm sure others with stronger views than I have will answer, but I thought proportioning valves were only necessary on disk/drum setups.  Was it installed by a previous owner?  If the two reservoirs in your dual master cylinder are of the same size, I'd remove but that's me.

Re: Brake proportioning valve leak=69 Ford XL,

If you have all drum brakes it is most likely just a brake failure switch and not a proportioning valve. The brake failure switch has a shuttle that stays centered as long as the front and rear brake pressure is equal. Break a line and the pressure from the working part of the system pushes the shuttle one way or the other turning on the brake idiot light.
