1966 Parklane Breezeway

Hey guys,
I am new on the site and I have a 1966 Breezeway that I am trying to decide what to do with. It has the 410/automatic. The body is in good shape last time I saw it (it is in Colorado I am in SC) but the trunk and floor pans will have to be replaced at some point. Interior was also still nice with the red cloth seats and chrome/ss trim. It has been stored inside out of the weather. If I decide to tackle this I am thinking of swapping the 410 for a FI 351w that is also available. Either way both motors have been sitting for 10+ years and would have to be gone through. The 351w is probably in better shape because it was a running, driving 1989 PU motor. The 410 was running but a compression check showed 3 dead cylinders. If I remember all of the electronics where there for the 351w and either way the fuel tank would probably have to be replaced. Not to mention rebuilding the suspension and I would like to upgrade the brakes to power disc and getting the tranny rebuilt.
Question is will the 351w drop in  with the stock oil pan set up or would that be a major ordeal?
I figure the 351 will probably double the mpg over the 410.
Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Re: 1966 Parklane Breezeway

As long as the 351W has a front sump oil pan, it will drop right in.  The 351W is a little different, but mounts up the same as a 289 which was an option in 66.  If your 351 does not have a front sump you could easily swap one on.  The came on lots of 60s and 70 cars.  A 302 pan will work, you just need to also get the correct oil pickup for the front sump pan.  Sorry it took me a couple of days to answer this, welcome to the forum!!!something

Thanks for the reply, so would I have to get 289 frame mounts and is the frame drill already or are they the same?
Hard to image they put a 289 in this 4000 lb tank.
What is the best front disc conversion?

The 289 mounts should drop right in, no mod needed.  A 289 is not a bad engine in a Galaxie, its no big block but nit bad.  My gal has a 302 and it gets up and moves, of course my 302 is far from stock and the 5-speed manual transmission makes all the difference in the world

If you want "junk yard" disc brakes, a really good option is to get them off of:

1974-1979 Cougar
1974-1978 ford pass
1977-1979 LTD II
1974-1976 Montego
1974-1979 T-Bird
1974-1976 Torino

All of these cars should interchange with your Galaxie with little or no trouble or modification. Just be sure to grab all the parts from one car so you'll have a matched system. In some cases people have reported issues getting there camber set correctly with the above listed discs, worked fine on mine and many others but a few people have has issues.  Also any disc brake system from any car in the "galaxie family" other than the ones above should fit however with some cars you may encounter one issue, the steering arm on the disc brakes for later Galaxies (not listed above) including the LTDs and country squires is thicker than the standard Galaxie steering arm so when the tie rod goes through the hole you will be able to install the nut but not the pin. the fix is to grind about 1/16" to 1/8" off of the top of the steering arm. I did this on a pare of brakes I sold and all worked well.

Re: 1966 Parklane Breezeway

Honestly, in my opinion, I would rebuild the 410. Torque is what you need to move these levethians. While the 351 is more modern, especially if the fuel injection is retained, I don't see your mileage doubling. These cars still have barn door aerodynamics. The 410 is basically a stroked 390 and if tuned correctly, freeway gears in the rear end, and driven with a light foot (this is the hard part), could deliver respectable mileage. Have fun with the project. Any pictures to post?
