C4 in 62 Galaxie, (Country Sedan)

I'm starting this as a new thread,  so  the other threads regarding the install of a 351c in the
62 wagon won't become to big.
After I got the 351c mounted into the wagon yesterday, the next step was to bolt up
the tranny.
So I'll start now, and in much detail, so that everyone can follow.
First the Trans support on a 62 Galaxie is held in place by 4 bolts in a vertical position
and 2 bolts that are horizantol. The support has a rubber bushing held by tension
into  2 large holes on the top. also this is were the metal  brace is slipped into,
pull this support out. It looks like a door handle
This is how the bolts hold the support to the transmission
Second the C4 has 2 studs  facing downward, and is held by 2 1\2"  bolts up into the
C4 transmisson. Remove these 2 bolts and remove the metal support from
it. This will go in place of the original, that you just removed.
Third  you'll need 2   1/2 x 2" bolts grade eight.
Thats it, just jack the trans support up, install the 2 bolts, tighted but not over tighten
then install the trans support bolts on each end.
My C4 came out of my 77 Ranchero which I"m using for some parts.
It looks like the drive shaft is a direct bolt in..  no shorting or extending needed..
All told it took me about 3 hrs for the  install, now I probably can do it in half that time.
Check my other post on here about the 351c install, regarding the motor mounts..
Best

these are pics of the C4 bolted to the trans mount. you can see the longer bolts up into the C4 case
and the rubber bushing...

The pic above shows on the right the original bolt, 1 x 1/2"  on the left are 2 2x!/2" bolts...grade 8

ON the left is the original bracket, it faces up and the mounting bolts go from underneath the
trans cross member through two holes, and mounts to the transmission. The one on the right
is taken from the C4 rubber mount, which on the C4 is connected to the transmission.
I just used the C4 bracket (right) in the place of the original..fit prefect

This is ther rubber bushing on the 62's trans cross member, in faces up, the ends fit down into
the two holes and grip the cross member.

the right one is the C4 mounting bracket and rubber

Re: C4 in 62 Galaxie, (Country Sedan)

Thanks Daze.
To all who read this post, although the C4 install worked OK,
there is a small problem. The original trans was the 3sp with OD,
installing the C4 left the driveshaft between 1 and 2" short. Just so your aware.
I can get 2" of the yoke into the tail shaft...which is not enough from what I have been told.
When I go to the 4R, this situation will not be a problem, as I am using an aluminum shaft
from a 2001 CV Police unit.

best
Dave

Re: C4 in 62 Galaxie, (Country Sedan)

I am not sure why "upload images" is not working.  There is another way to post pix.  Try following the directions on this link:

http://galaxieforum.boardhost.com/viewforum.php?id=4

If that doesn't work I can still post them for you by editing a post you make, then you can edit that same post and add coments.  Kind of an involved way to do it but what ever works is grate for me
