I have just bought my first ford (Galaxie 64 conv). I only had gm cars before and have VERY little knowledge about ford. When i got my 64 the previous owner had changed the oil in the cruiseomatic to dextron III and it doesnt shift well after that. It has been driven 10 minutes whit that oil, do i need to do a overhaul or is it possible to drain it completly and put in the correct oil??
My english may be a little bad becouse im from sweden

I'd think you could drain the trans and put in Type F. Dropping the pan won't drain the torque converter, but maybe that will be enough to get things happy again inside the trans.

I would flush it completely with the type F. not easy to do if you are not set up to do that but is the best way to have the correct fluid. Welcome to the forum!!!

Thanks for all the answers. I work as a mechanic so i can borrow the workshop at the weekends, so i can rip it apart and flush it. is there a drain plug on the converter? there are some really nice cars on this forum
