does a 64 Galaxie come with a loom resistance wire?

I am having a lot of trouble with trying to get this car to start. It just died the other day and backfired a few times as it rolled to a stop.
Every time I crank it, I just get a few backfires and carb sputters.
I have since checked and added more grounds, I had replaced the old coil with a MSD Blaster 2 coil that came with a ballast resistor, which it said I must use. There was already a ballast resistor in the car.

The ignition wire is pretty thick. Could that be a loom resistor wire and be causing problems when I have another resistor on the wire?

I also replaced the Unilite distributor module. I checked and it does work.

Per the instructions and MSD techs, I have the dist. red wire going to the ignition wire end of the ballast resistor, green to the negative coil and brown to ground (- battery terminal).

I am getting 10-10.5 volts from the ignition switch to the ballast. I also ran a jumper wire from the battery positive to the ignition end of ballast and am getting the same volts. The battery itself, which is brand new, is showing about the same volts, as did the old one I just traded in.

Any idea as to why it will not start?
Thanks

Re: does a 64 Galaxie come with a loom resistance wire?

My "61" Starliner has the pink resistor wire.  I believe you have one on your "64", youcan see it coming out of your ignition switch. I have no idea of what you problem of non star would be.

It turned out to be a shear pin on the distributor...got sheared.
