Hi
After trying to use 1.5" spacers with weld 15" rims, I had to admit that my 63 Galaxie needed new wheels, the rear weld wheels were stucket after I installed SN 95 cobra gt rear brake discs
What I plan to buy is american racing style 17x8 with 205/50 R17 tires for the front and 18x9 with 225/55 R18 for the rear
Will these wheels fit and what speedometer gear (color) would be the best?

Those tires should fit no problem. I'm running 245/45/18 front and 275/35/20 rear on my 1961 Galaxie with no issues. Make sure you have the correct offset and that you have enough clearance for the brake calipers.
Can't help you with speedometer gear, I'm not familiar with the colors.

Ok, great
ET is 0 on all of them
The rims in the middle (link) are chosen for my white 63 Galaxie

Nice...strange actually how we chose virtually the same rims! Mine are Voxx brand

Coincidence :-)
The chrome rims was a bit more expensive also here in Scandinavia, but imo the gunmetal rims are also cool, more "sporty" than the chroms
An image link will appear here when the wheels are on

What was the overall diameter of the original tires? The 255-55R18 is 737mm, or 29" in diameter. You can use that info to calculate speedo gear requirements. There are many online tire size calculators to give you dimensions of tire sizes. Those new tires will probably be quite a bit taller than the originals, so that will impact your gear ratio as well, giving you a taller effective gear ratio. That is why your speedo will be off and your driveability may change, too.

Finally summer and sun after June with new rain and temp record. Under 50 f and a lot of rain
New wheels and tires on:
Ordered bigger speedo gears, but should have been ordering smaller gears
Anyway the speedo now shows almost correct speed, so it doesnt need to be changed

Looking good. Nice choice!
How do they fit? Lots of room I bet!
