Cable identification

Hi

While I was installing the harness for the MSD-system, a single cable was observed under the two main connectors on the firewall on my 63 Galaxie. Anyone knows what this cable was originally used for?. The second picture shows the end of the cable

Re: Cable identification

I'd say radio antenna, too.

Re: Cable identification

Well, the cable is in the engine bay, and on one of the pictures , the cable is placed on the front fender drivers side to get it more visible. The original antenna cable is already used with the CD-player installed in the car. The antenna is mounted on the front fender on passengers side. So its probably not an antenna cable

Re: Cable identification

It looks like the coax type connector used on the radio antenna cable, but if the antenna is on the other side, and connected to the radio, then it must be something else. My car has dual antennas, but they are in the quarter panels, not the fenders.

What is the other end connected to? Maybe it was not a factory thing, but for some dealer installed thing, or aftermarket accessory? A good little mystery, anyway.

Re: Cable identification

Was at the garage today and took some pictures. Here is one of them with arrows:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/mN3GRVrBHZxKgrX52

The black cable (Blue arrow) is the same as in the unidentified cable. Its spliced with the yellow one (Red arrow) Before the splice, the yellow one comes from the white connector (or what it is, green arrow). The P/N (Yellow arrow) is C3AB19A885A

Googled and found this: http://www.ynzyesterdaysparts.com/pdfs/63GALAXIE.pdf

Following that PDF-file, the yellow and black cable with that P/N is cables for the Air condition

So the cable is identified and is for the A/C. And that the connector in the engine bay wasnt connected is logical, because the A/C is removed. We dont need that in North Norway

The white connector, is it just a connector or a fuse maybe?

Re: Cable identification

Well done on the search! I was going to guess A/C but meant to look at my ride first (which never had that option) to see if there was some cable similiar that I forgot about, and to confirm the stock radio antenna wire does not pass through the firewall; yes the stock antenna is on the passenger (right) fender.

Anyway, great job.  And yes, the the white connector is for an inline glass fuse.
