Re: engine swap

They are both FE engines so your trans bell housing, and mounts should be the same. What mods are you thinking? Or are you talking about correct carb, distributor, etc.?

Re: engine swap

going for factory stock been buying correct parts for over a year now. I saw in another forum that mods had to be made to install a 68 390. I'm new to Galaxies been a 1972 Gran Torino lover since 1986

Re: engine swap

I wonder if the modifications had to do with the engine mounts? I seem to recall hearing that the FE block changed how the mounts attached in 1965 and later. If the car has the original frame perches, then the correct 64 block mounts should allow the 64 block to drop in as it was born. I don't think there would be any other differences between the blocks you have.

Re: engine swap

70XL is correct. After a little research, I found from about ten different sources that pre '65 blocks used a two bolt mount, and '65 and later used a three bolt mount. This is the block mounting point being drilled for said mounts. So one big telltale sign for your engine aside from the numbers should be a block drilled to accept a two bolt mount.

That's what I like about this forum:Being a relative newb to Galaxies, I learn something new every day.

Re: engine swap

My next question would be why would you want to go back to the 352 from the 390? I'd think the 390 would be more desirable than the 352 and if it is not a concours restoration the 390 is probably carries more value, even if it is not "original".

Re: engine swap

I tend to agree on keeping the 390. Coming from a small block '65  owner, trust me when I say that you WILL miss the torque and mid range of the bigger engine. If it isn't a concourse restore, then stay with the 390. Although it is still an FE, a 352 is still small block cubes.

Re: engine swap

OK. I'm with you. Have you checked out the stroker kits for FE engines? Just saying. If the other is going to be a toy why not go big? I'm gonna do a 434 kit on my wife's 351m. That engine is way too lazy down low.
