I'm slowly rebuilding a spare COM transmission for swap into my 61 Thunderbird when the time comes or I will use the experience to rebuild the one in my car. I've read that installing a Transgo shift kit is a good idea but neither the moderator on the Ford transmission forum nor the parts supplier (Fatsco) recommended it. I might install the kit anyway. Other thoughts and experiences are welcome. FWIW my engine is slightly more powerful than stock.
Thanks.

I don't have much transgo experience, but have used the big B&M kit on an AOD trans and regretted it every day. I always liked a firm shift, but the supposed street/strip setup was ludicrous.
If I had to do it over again on the AOD, I would have went with constant pressure valve body and turned the TV cable into kickdown only.
Did the TCI complete rebuild on the C6 in my LTD II and like it, and the c4 in both my '65 Galaxie and '68 Cougar as well. Firm shifts, but not uncomfortable, and full throttle tire chirps hitting second. The TCI comes with the manual/auto upgrades (full auto in drive, but manual down and upshifts at or to any speed).
Wish I could help with the transgo stuff.
