Bodystyle is the main reason I bought it. Newer looks too bloaty and older headlight position doesn't look that good to me. If that's the nature of the cam then no wonder its so gutless on low rpm.

The other giveaway with either cam is that once you hit that rpm, it should wake up to the point that it feels a different engine altogether. A 2200-2600 rpm converter will help get her out of the hole a little better, as would a little more gear. I ran the 275 DEH in my 400m with a 2600 stall and it ran like a scalded dog even with a 3.00:1 rear gear. Keep in mind it wasn't a quarter mile bruiser, but would get out of its own way and run 115-120 all day long.

I went with an xe cam in my 289 Cougar and it is unbelievable in that smaller car.

Re: Show Me Your Ride(s)

My '79 F-100, '66 Olds Toronado and '56 Cadillac.  The '64 Galaxie 500, '76 F-150 and '95 F150 belong to my mom.

She bought the '95 to replace the '76 last October.  The '95 was a one owner 30,000 mile truck. After she got it she thought it was too nice to haul stuff with so she kept the '76 to do the dirty work and sold her '95 Taurus instead.

The '76 has a 460.  It's faster than that Toronado.

The Cadillac is my main daily driver.  I take it on trips to Florida and Cleveland, Ohio from Atlanta.  It was my only car from 2001 to 2014 when I bought the Toronado.  Now they share the duty.  The F100 has been my work vehicle since 2003.  I've never owned a modern car.

Re: Show Me Your Ride(s)

Thanks.  Yes, our family has never been into new cars.  In my case that's any car built after '72 and any truck built after '79. (catalytic converters were required on trucks in 1980)

Today my mom drove Big Red to her friend's 80th birthday party.  All the old guys at the party were flipping out over it.  One of the guys has a '72 LT1 Vette.  I told him my mom will race him with her truck.  That 460 will eat the Vette for lunch.

Re: Show Me Your Ride(s)

The '95's name is Newt, short for New Truck. These pics were taken the day we got it last September.  It truly looks like it left the showroom yesterday.  The seat isn't even worn or crushed down.  The plastic cellophane stuff was still covering the the face of the radio.

The plastic and rubber under the hood looks like new.  It looks grey because of the flash but it's black and not all dried out and brittle.  The rubber window channels weatherstripping are nice and soft and supple, too.  The first owner kept it in a climate controlled garage.  I think the day we bought it was the first time it had ever been driven in the rain.  The color isn't my favorite but it's not too bad.  It's called Tuscon Bronze.

Re: Show Me Your Ride(s)

That '95 is in good shape. I have a '95 short bed that's my driver. Has the 300 I6. Love that truck and the engine. Would take it over a v8 anyday in a truck. That '72 is sharp. I had a friend in high school that had a '72 long bed with a 390. With a mild cam, intake and headers that old FE was ferocious. We used to pick on EVERYTHING in that truck.

Re: Show Me Your Ride(s)

Here's an update to mine. Still can't bring myself to swap out the 3 speed and overdrive even though I don't enjoy it. Just got it all cleaned up and listed for sale.
