Greetings fellow Ford enthusiasts!!!
I seek knowledge from anybody who knows what would make good donor cars for my 1970 Ford XL Sportsroof. My XL needs rust repair under the vinyl. It's hard to find an exact donor vehicle in my area, because these cars just of 1970 just aren't available near ND. I have found several 4 door LTDs of the same year in fairly good condition. Obviously, I understand the lines are different than my XL, but what about front glass? The front roof above the front glass has a unique crown to it. I was hoping somebody knew if I cut the patch I needed for my XL, would the LTD "donor car" roof crown match? What about brake parts? My car has drum brakes all around, certain LTDs I've located have front disc brakes. Is the swap possible without a ton of fabrication? I don't have access to these donor LTDs until i purchase them, so its tough. I appreciate any replies from you guys. Thanks for reading my post

I can't say for sure, but I think the windshield glass is the same. The mechanicals and suspension pieces would interchange, about the only difference between the LTD and the XL is the roof line and interior trim, of course. I believe you should be able to swap the spindles over to get the front discs, along with the M/C and residual valve, etc., needed for the disc - drum set up. I can't help but think the brow line of the roof is the same from the sportsroof to the formal roof, especially if the windshield is the same.
Congrats on getting one of the best cars, in my unbiased opinion.
