Yet another miracle find at a local wrecker! So I drove to a small wrecker about half hour drive out of town for an axle shaft for my 61. In the wrecking yard, I ran across a 62 Galaxie 500 with all four bumper guards on the bumpers. I couldn't believe my eyes! As we were walking passed that 62 with the bumper guards to get an axle shaft from another 62, I casually asked how much? How about$10.00 a piece was the reply...SOLD I said.
Anyway...sorry about the unnecessary details, I just thought it was a cool story. I do have a question:
Where on the bumpers are the bumper guards suppose to be located? There are no predrilled holes or plugs for me to use. I have been looking a pictures on line, but looks like they could be in multiple places. Anybody know where is the correct location on the bumpers?

That is quite a find, almost as rare as the headlight doors.
I posted a similar question when I got mine and my source said he got his info from measurements on a couple of cars where the part was factory installed. I don't have any info for the back ones.
"Hey sorry for the delay. I will get out in the garage this weekend and take some measurements for you. Basically you line up the outer edge of the bumper guard with the inner side of the front inner headlight ring and draw an imaginary line down from there. Like if you look at the car from the front, and hold a yardstick on the inside of the inner headlight to the ground, and then place the guard on the right side of the stick. The tricky part is getting the drill hole exact.Since I did not have the original mounting instructions, I used a rubber hose the same size as the bolt and cut it off so that it came out just enough to touch the bumper Then I dipped it in black paint and held the guard in place so that it would leave a mark where the bolt should go on the bumper Then I used a hole punch to scribe the mark and using a heavy duty drill, I made a big enough hole."

Thanks...good to know where they are suppose to go and pretty cool tip for marking location of hole for mounting bolt.
Yes it was quite a find for sure. In the 31 years I have owned the car and the countless wrecking yards I have visited, I have never been able to find them. I consider those a gift from the car Gods!
Here in the great white north(Canada) at least in the prairies where I live, I would have to guess the bulk of the Galaxies sold here were 4 door Fairlane sedans, 6 cylinder, three on the tree units. It's almost impossible to find trim pieces or body parts for two door models and almost impossible to find stuff for Sunliners and Starliners.

Follow up post on the bumper guards. I decided not to install in the factory location. On front bumper I wanted to hide bumper mounting bolts so moved guards in a bit. On rear bumper I narrowed them up a bit. Personal preference I guess!
