Re: Power window motor supplier?

I will have to spend some time researching if someone has figured it out. guitar74 found a supplier for new replacement motors(Thanks guitar74). They are around $200 US. If I can figure out how to get a two wire motor to work, I would have to spend a fraction of that. Remember, I may have to replace more than one motor as a result of a few of them failing already. So, at $200 US a pop, it adds up.
I am posting the wire schematic to see if anyone can make sense of the circuitry to attempt going from a 4 wire circuit to a two wire circuit. I know the function of three of the four wires. Black wire goes to a circuit breaker and grounds to car. Red and yellow wire supply power for up and down. It' the fourth wire, green in colour that has me stumped!
Hey Daze...you said you like wiring...lol!

Re: Power window motor supplier?

looking at your schematic, it shows the green wire going to ground. It also show it going to each side of the switch, so you will probably need to ground the green wire in some fashion to make it work. I would try the two wire (don't destroy your 4 wire adapter) see if it works just connecting the two wires for up and down. I would then try grounding the green wire. You may need to ground the green wire to the chassis or place a jumper to the black protected wire.  I would try grounding the green wire to the door first.

I hear you on not wanting to spend $800 on four window motors.

Re: Power window motor supplier?

What messes me up is when I was bench testing the motors I used a battery and connected battery ground to the black motor wire and battery positive to red and then yellow motor wire, the motor didn't spin. When I connected battery ground to green wire and battery positive to red and then yellow wire from motor, the motor spun both directions. So if green wire is a ground, what's the purpose of the black wire that goes to a circuit breaker?

That would seem to be the way the motor is wound and wired internally. I might think of it as the green is a common and that is what takes the current back to the ground. Whatever it is, it would seem to not apply to a two wire motor, so it shouldn't matter. This is why I said it may be easier, or simpler to run new wires for the two wire motors. Figure it out on the bench, then pull new wires rather than pull your hair out looking at these confusing schematics. At least if you can make it work on the bench then you should be able to figure out which wires in the existing harness are needed and which can be abandoned. You may also have to add new circuit breakers and abandon the existing, as well.

Here is what I am looking for. If there is a way to convert a newer two wire motor to work with my 4 wire circuit, I would sure like to hear from someone. Way more new two wire motors available.

I've been buying parts off amazon, and for my 67 there's several aftermarket options, both 2 wire and 4 wire. Check here: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=au_pf_cr_automotive_L2_WindowReg?_encoding=UTF8&i=automotive&node=3095176011&vehicle=1967-54-2106-20-----6254------20-1&vehicleId=20&pf_rd_p=2401364282&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_t=1601&pf_rd_i=B004CGRQXC&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=2Q19FVQEB98FCPQZEM7J

Re: Power window motor supplier?

Thanks for the link to amazon. I checked out the motors but could not find the four wire motors you mentioned? Was there another link perhaps?

Re: Power window motor supplier?

All I could find was two wire motors as well. Have you made any progress on it?

Re: Power window motor supplier?

I hate to say "pull the trigger" on a $200 motor, but you may be at the mercy of supply and demand. I'll see if I can't find another avenue. May take me a while, but if I find something that would be worthwhile, I'll send you the link.

Re: Power window motor supplier?

Ok. Thanks.
I guess I'm too stubborn to pay that kind of coin for a motor. I would rather try and find an alternative solution...back to the salvage yard to see what I can make work!😀😀😀
