1968 power window stopped working

Hello to all,

My '68 XL's quarter power window worked intermittently and has now permanently stopped. Today the driver's power window has now also quit working, working intermittently before.

Note: the power windows worked great before quitting, always ran up and down their tracks smoothly and very fast without any stripping or dragging sounds.

I see that the motors, and also power window regulator gears, are readily available.

Could it also be a voltage issue or power window switches failing?

Wondering what others with power windows have run into with the similar problem as mine?

Re: 1968 power window stopped working

Possibly a relay?  Get a 12 volt test light and start at the pos+ wire at the window motor. Try bypassing the car wiring and hooking up battery wire to the motor.  Check the grounds. Test the switch to see if it has current coming to it...follow the path of current.  Best to get a wiring schematic for your car. I have had luck finding these online in forums basically free.

Re: 1968 power window stopped working

Thanks g-man, good suggestion on hooking up a battery wire to the motor.  I will start troubleshooting tomorrow.
