Anyone else find there side mirrors to be barely functional? I replaced my pitted ones for aftermarket ...round fluted type. they look good on the car but are barely functional from a drivers perspective. I noticed the originals have a nut on the inside that can be loosened. This may give me more flexibility to turn the entire head more. ?The aftermarket ones are pinned in place and don't think the heads can be re-positioned. Even though the mirror pivots inside the head, I can barely view it from the drivers seat. Especially the passenger side. I really don't like the look of the rectangular ones that mount on the front fenders but they may be more practical. Thought about moving the mirrors back more on the door but then they will be in the way of the vent windows when they swing out.
Any thoughts????

Sometime in the last four or so years, I found a decent used OEM part that I think is period correct. It replaced the aftermarket mirror my dad added in the 60s that I think was from Montgomery Wards, and was only adjustable using a Phillips screw driver. When my son accidentally crunched it moving around the car in the garage, I was happy for the upgrade. It seems to have a legitimate Ford logo, along with a Ford part number underneath, except that is only from memory. Anyway, it works well enough for me, positioned on the door just outside the vent window. I can post a photo if desired.

Yes pics please. I'd like to see pics of the whole car as well if possible.

Today was the first day I could get to some new photos and don't have time right now to roll it out for other photos, but there are others in the library visible after clicking one of the thumbnails below; some from 2011 and a few back from 2003.
Anyway, the vent window only opens about half way; guess I was used to to it since it has been like that from when my Dad installed the first after-market mirror. When I did this one I reused one hole but had to drill another.

Yes that position looks famliar from photos I've seen though I cannot recall from where. I looked up some brochures and none were shown. I guess since they were not required, form defeated function.

Great, I just purchased one of those mirrors, is there a better place to installing them so they work better?

It strikes me you have a choice of trading off distance from how much you need to open the vent window, no? I find the ability to open half of the total travel plenty on my ride. I don't think it'd be better if you went farther forward, tho' I could be wrong.

I have NOT driven mine in the summer yet but think it would be nice to get that vent window pretty far open. Moving the mirrors forward on the doors would help make them more visible.
