Why are 95% of the Galaxies equipped with mag wheels ? I found 1 restored Galaxie....a 59 from Texas
I'm posting requests for tech. support with no replies. Are there other Forums out there ?
I own a real sharp black 59 Galaxie Sunliner. You can shave in the reflection of the paint. The reproduction
interior is to factory specs. The padded dash is perfect and original. The disgusting engine bay will soon
look very respectable. Are there any other restored / original early Galaxies out there? My total investment
is 20K. Not bad.

Yes, there are a number of other forums out there.

Have you ever considered that those of us that put "mag wheels" on our Galaxies is because we like them? I prefer not to drive on 14" skinny tires with hubcaps. It's a personal choice we all can make.
I try to offer tech support when I can provide the correct information. I am not a Galaxie expert but have learned a few things over the years from trial and error and with the help of others. If I don't respond to a post it's because I don't have the answer that someone is looking for. I simply don't know. If you are looking for tech support and have not found it hear, there may be other forums out there.
I have been on this forum for a few years now and have received lots of help from others. I don't know everyone's background or experience. There maybe experts, mechanics, machinists or hobbyists out there. One thing I do know is that we all seem to be a bunch of guys that share a common interest who take the time to help each other out if we can.

Its all about taste. Those that want an original car make them that way, (there are lots of them out there)... or at least basically original. Its all about what the individual wants. I like modifying things, thats who I am, in my mind there is always a better way to build a mouse trap. that means upgrade it all including the wheels. As to your questions not getting answered, part of the problem is I have been a bit of an absentee landlord and when I'm on I try to make sure all the questions get answers. I am a football official and my daughter plays high school volleyball so as you can imagine I have been crazy busy the last couple of months. I am nom "back" and have been going through all the posts and have answered some of your questions. I apologize that I was not here to help.

It seems that those of us that prefer a Galaxie as it rolled out of the factory are a minority.
A few years back I bought a 75 F-150. It was equipped with 8" wide tires on spoked rims and smitties.
The fat steering wheel blocked the instruments. I got $150. for the rims and tires. I tossed in the edelbrock
air cleaner. I found an almost new set of radial white stripe tires. The wheel covers cost $10 each. A steering
wheel was $20. A pair of mufflers, pipes and labor was $400. I got a good deal on an a.c. recharge.
I no longer have a loud kids pick up. I never experienced the street rod era in my life. I'm a minority
in the truck forum too. That's life.

Its interesting, when I started this forum (about 8 years ago) it was definitely the other way around. At that point I was familiar with the Mustang community where most modify and the Galaxie community seamed mostly original. I think in general (and I am not labeling you one way or another) that is has to do with age. In my experience most people (not including concours correct) that wanted their cars original had a memory attachment to these cars. In other words they remember when their Galaxie of choice was new and relive those good memories and want to make more by owning and enjoying a piece of their history.
Someone like myself who was born in the late 70s has no history built up with these cars. I love and respect the styling of the cars that were built in the 60s but I don't like they way they handle and perform, so I modify. I take a classic look and bring it up to date so to speak.
As to mag wheels, I see three points: 1. Running steel wheels requires hub caps to look good IMHO and original hubcaps are getting more $$ all the time, the quality is going down and there is the chance you will loose one. 2. Mag wheels have been a replacement for OEM rims for a long time across all levels of cars from the T-bucket to a 2016 cadillac escalade. Its just one more way to personalize your car so it doesn't look like others of the same year model and color. 3. (This is a big one for me) Performance. Mag wheels allow for wider tires and less unsprung weight, translation is better performance and handling.
Bottom line is I think the variety and depth to this hobby is amazing. I love seeing a car rolling down the street just as Ford intended it to 50+ years after it was built and its guys like you that give me the opportunity. I also love the modernized classic (not big on body mods) that drives like a new car but looks like a more agressive version of what Ford intended.
