Neighbor fired up his 429 CJ Cyclone today. She is a beauty, sounds great. Thought some of you may want to see a couple of pics. If you think this one is nice, you should see his 70 Boss 302 4 speed.

That is quite the beak, very mean looking. Sounds like a nice collection. These are the people in your neighbourhood!

I haven't seen him drive that thing in two years. Probably why he decided to put it up for sale. Now, if that was my car, there would be long skinny black marks on the road in select locations!

Interesting looking car I don't think I have ever seen one of those before. The front end is unique!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Mercury Cyclone was based on the Ford Torino:

It would be the Mercury Montego, which was the counterpart to the Torino.

Thank you. To me the bodies look nearly identical from the front wheels back except for slightly more rounded rear windows on the Cyclone (and the nose of course). Wasn't the Cyclone based on the Montego, so by extension on the Torino?
1970 Mercury Montego

I wouldn't say "based on". The Torino and Montego were sister cars, so one brand, Ford or Mercury, was not really 'based' on the other. Essentially the same car with different styling cues and potentially other biases to conform to brand identity., e.g. Mercury being a more luxury brand, over Ford.
