Hello all,I am new to this forum. I Have just started purchase a 1965 Galaxie Convertible 352. First I plan to upgrade the brakes. Currently they are the stock manual drum x 4. I would like to upgrade to power with the dual reservoir master cylinder. I plan on using the drum brakes x 4 for now. Maybe a front disc conversion in the future.I would like to buy a kit. Questions--1. There are many kits out there, Which is best? I don't mind paying a few dollars extra for quality.2. Will I need a proportioning valve if I use all drum brakes?3 Will I need to modify or change the brakes lines (where the enter the MC)?4. Is there a preferred port on the intake manifold for the vacuum for the new booster? Thanks to allBravoman

welcome to the forum!! not exactly sure how a 65 Galaxie is plumed but the there should be a place to separate the front brakes from the rear brakes. When I put a dual bowl MC on my 64.5 mustang I got s drum drum perportioing valve and replaced the stock unit. this allowed me to plumb the brakes into the separate ports in the MC. Rather than buying a kit I would look for replacement parts at the auto parts store. in other words get a power booster for a 65 galaxie then get a MC for a drum brake car from a 67 (should be the year Ford went from single to dual bowl MC, at least thats when it happened in a Mustang) I looked on O'reilly's and found this.

Found this on Rock Auto, for a 1967 Galaxie. Cardone makes a quality rebuild. I always try to get something as close as possible to what you already have and this should bolt right up. You may have to make a couple of lines up and I believe the brake light switch is already on the pedal.

My '67s (manual drums) have dual bowl MCs but they are designed for manual drum brakes. If you're going with power disc brakes in the future, consider a MC specifically designed for power discs which has a larger bore cylinder. Like you I plan on upgrading to power drums for now with front discs when I can afford it, so I will replace my MCs with power disc-specific ones now. That way when I install the disc fronts I won't need to replace the MC again.
Fortunately power brakes were an option in '67 so a stock replacement vacuum booster should be available through a parts outlet, but I plan on ordering a booster as well as a .MC for a '70-'72 Galaxie which will have a bigger bore designed for disc brakes. From what I've been told everything should bolt right on. Don't forget to get the correct length brake pedal rod that will work with the new booster.
