I use a spring formula that uses the # of free coils in it. I messed around with a Moog chart and applied the formula... pretty close. So I'm confidant about what I do with springs. The next biggest factor is spring wire diameter.

Follow up picture to see stance for those of you wondering about cutting springs. Stock 61 springs, half a coil cut and approximately, 250 pounds weight saved off the front. Distance from highest point of fender lip to ground 26.5 inches.

looks good!! Thats about the look I want on my 62. I have not adjusted the coils up enough and my front end is sitting about 1" lower than yours. I still have quite a bit of adjustment in the coil overs but they are way easier to adjust with no load on them ( not the weight of the car but rather the tension created by having the spindle bolted in) so I will adjust them when I tare apart the front end to install my quick steer spindles.

...funny, because I would like to go another 1" lower...want to trade front ends? lol
Tell me more about the quick steer spindles? You mentioned some spindle modification previously, what did you figure out?

Now that I look at the picks mine is not that much lower than yours.
It somehow looks a little better on your car than it does on mine. I still need to raise mine up a little but maybe not as much as I originally thought.
As to the spindles, ever go to a fishing hole and know your going to get a fish on the first cast, well I knew I would get a responce would be the case when I mentioned my new spindles. I haven't built them yet but I have been working on the planing part. I think I have it figured out and will post some pix when I actually start the project.

Yes, yours does sit a tad bit lower...I like it. Makes me want to go at least another inch lower than where yours is sitting.
I wonder if the rim size and tire profile is what makes them look different some how?
Looking forward to seeing the spindle work pics. Are you thinking about modifying the spindle angle to address the camber issue as a result of the spindle swap, while your at it? Just askin! Lol

I think that is a big part of the difference. Maybe a measurement would be a better comparison. How far is it from, the front corner where the back of your front wheel wheel well meets the rocker panel, to the ground??

Yes... and no. Yes I am addressing that issue but not by making any changes to the spindle to address it. My plan is to modify a set of stock drum brake spindles which already have the correct camber settings. I could have modified a set of disc spindles but than the camber issues would still be there but by going with the stock spindles I eliminate this issue and its not any more fab work than modifying the disc brake spindles would have been. I am planning to fab up brackets to use PBR calipers. The caliper mount and the steering arm will be part of the same bracket so it would have been the same work either way.

Ok, so you are not going to not use the T-bird caliper then? Keep us posted.
As far as the measurement you are requesting, sorry, I don't understand your description. I measured from the highest point of the fender arch(pretty much straight in line with the center of the spindle) down to the ground and got 26.5 inches. Hope this helps?

No the T-bird spindles will go the way of eBay when I take them off. As far as the measurement that wasnt the measurement that I was looking for but it works just as well I never would have guessed by looking at the pix that my car is 1" lower than yours. Mine came in at 25.5"

After completing the 4.6 install and driving the car for a while, I still wasn't happy with the stance of the car. Originally I cut half a coil from the OEM springs and with about 250 lbs of weight shaved with all of the modifications, the stance was close but still not where I wanted it to be. I pulled the coils and cut another 1/4 of a coil. So that is 3/4 in total of a coil removed. I am much happier now with the result. I suspect the front will settle in a little further once I start driving the car again in spring. I would be happy with a little further lowering if it happens.
