Ok I have a 62 galaxie with a 390 and cruise o matic trans. The car was fine last year. I rebuild the motor this winter and put everything back together. Started it up a two weeks ago and after dialing it in took it down the road. Everything was fine. We back a week later to do some fine tuning and why I start the car to move it out it would not move. I found out I put the wrong atf in so I drained it and put type f in. It started to move again but still not very well. It only went a quarter mile with dextron in it. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on???? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I doubt the current issue is because of the trans fluid. I assume you did not rebuild the trans, just the engine. I would check all the linkages and vacuum lines to the trans and ensure everything is hooked up correctly and functioning properly. Did you disrupt the torque converter when you removed the engine? Maybe the converter moved and did not get seated in the pump when the engine was reinstalled? You may want to confirm that before risking any more damage.

The torque converter was removed but made sure it was seated in when I reinstalled the transmission. Put a new vacuum modulator so I'm working on that adjustment. No rebuild just a filter change but it worked good last year and when I took it down the road a week ago it seemed fine as well. It sat for a week and then when I started it up again I would not move. Just seems odd that this came with out any symptoms before it happened. The other thing I forgot was when we did put it gear with the car turned off we could roll it through all gears. I haven't checked since I got some movement back
