Power window motors don't have jam

I got the windows back in my Sunliner. While the windows were out, I replaced the window beltliner, window channel liner, cleaned and regreased all of the regulators, and had the window motors rebuilt. I hooked up 12V to the window motors directly and the motors spin initially then the slow down and stop while trying to raise or lower the windows. I checked the window movement manually, they slide up and down smoothly with minimal effort. The window channel liner makes for a snug fit for the windows, but not tight. Those power window motors are a pretty good size, they just don't seem to have any torque. I'm thinking of bringing the motors back to the starter/altenator shop to get them checked. ANY THOUGHTS?

Re: Power window motors don't have jam

HI Dan
So I can not speak to your exact problem, but a couple of thoughts on electric motors
I just had my  rear window motor "repaired"  that means the guy found the bad wire and fixed it.
and maybe he cleaned and painted it.
I know he did not rewire the mortor, nor clean it out.
in your case it could be the gears a cummed up.
also the scissor lift might be cummed up...
My neighbor had a stuck window in his 97 Buick, I helped him take it apart.
they use a single lift, with an ofset motor that runs a cable. the window is held by
craddle, and snugged up with bolts.    3 bolts holds the motor and 4 bolts hold the
lift channel. I think this would be a great improvment over our old scissor style..
I know your probably not looking for this, but its an option. and anyone with crank up
windows could do a retro fit easy, about $25  for each door,
Hope you work it out
Dave

Re: Power window motors don't have jam

Thanks Dave. I would like to get the windows working properly as is, rather than changing  the window lift mechanisms, just seems like less work. Those motors are about three times the size of any current electric motor. I would think when working properly, they should make good power. Your experience with a repair guy has got me thinking! I brought the motors back to the repair place. I'm convinced it is the motors because I removed a regulator out of the car, hooked up a motor, bench tested it, the motors barely turned the regulator. I had previously removed the gears out of the regulators, cleaned and re-greased them, so i know they spun freely. It's just frustrating when you think you did all of the right things, and still end up with an issue? Fun and games, LOL.

Re: Power window motors don't have jam

Got the answer to why my power windows seem to be lacking power after I got them all rebuilt. It turns out the motors are fine. When I was testing the motors and windows for proper function last spring I was using a battery charger to power them. When I completed the electrical system and tried again with battery power they worked great. I checked into this at a starter shop and was told that a battery charger at best will only produce 50% of what a battery will provide...not enough for the motors.  Case closed!
