'66 4 Door Custom Resto Project

Hey all, I may or may not know anything about these big cars but Im probably going to be coming here frequently to ask questions about the restoration of this car. Here is the car -

And the inside is also blue. Couple questions - Ive found a website that list color codes for the Galaxies but am not sure WHICH blue I have one the outside of this car. It appears to have a bit of metallic in the dark part and none in the light blue part. Can you help with the color codes? Is it maybe Nightmist Blue on the bottom and Arcadian Blue on top?

So for the interior. Im coming up short on parts for this car. Ive found Dearborn CLassics for carpet and the dash pad. I think the carpet color is Aqua? What about the interior paint color so I can paint the dash pad to match as it comes black.

Are there any good online sources for getting good quality restore able interior parts if no new ones are available?

Sorry for all of the questions right off the bat. This project is important to my boss as it was his dads car and the first car he learned to drive on. Hoping I can get this thing looking like new again.

welcome to the forum!!  I don't have much I can help with.  Unfortunately there is not a lot of aftermarket support for these cars.   As far as the colors take the names of the paint you know down to a paint shop and look at their samples.  should be able to determine which colors you have and, need.  Before comparing I would get some buffing compound and polish up a small section of the paint you have so you have something to compare the samples to.

Thanks! I dont think buffing will do much - the car had been repainted before and not very well.
If you know of an upholstery shop that specializes in this rare stuff, let me know.

Re: '66 4 Door Custom Resto Project

any good upholstery shop can recreate the interior using the original coverings as the pattern, in fact most good shops prefer to make their own rather than using aftermarket ones because it takes less work to make one from scratch than it does to make an aftermarket cover fit correctly.  I would look for a shop that does only auto upholstery.  As to the buffing the purpose is not to save the paint that is on there but rather give you an accurate section to compare the samples to.

I know what you meant about buffing. I was saying I dont even think the original color was used when they repainted - just something similar.

I'll probably have to drive these seats somewhere out of town. The local auto upholstery joint isnt very good. I supposed finding door panels is impossible as well?

Re: '66 4 Door Custom Resto Project

Finding used door panels for a four door may be easier than for a two door because they are less desirable and there may be more of them kicking around. However, fifty year old stuff is fifty year old stuff and may not have aged well. There are a number of places that sell new reproductions and you can always make custom door panels. SMS Auto Fabics and Original Auto Interiors should be able to get you original materials and fab door panels.

SMS is the place in Oregon? The door panels Im most worried about at this point. Also slightly worried about finding the right color SEM paint to repaint the faded plastics.
