Color finish on 390 FE intake

Hi

The CJ intake C8OE-9425-C will be removed so the lifters can be replaced. Its difficul to get it done clean with the intake on.

The intake will be glasblasted  painted black, but what finish is the correct for a 63 Galaxie with 390 FE? Gloss, satin or flat?

Re: Color finish on 390 FE intake

It was my understanding that they all came from the factory in gloss because it stayed cleaner

Gloss is the finish I want, but if it is too unoriginal, it wouldnt has been good. But it will probably be gloss black. A shop will use powder coating to paint it. Also the expansion tank and the fan guard will be powder coated in the same finish

Re: Color finish on 390 FE intake

if you are having it powder coated, than I would go with gloss.  I do a lot with powder and even though more durable than paint as a protective coat, it tends to be softer than paint as a finish.  Thats part of why it doesn't chip or where off easily.  so any way because of it being a little on the soft side powder will naturally go to more of a semigloss/satin over time so I would start with gloss to maximize the end result.

Re: Color finish on 390 FE intake

13-14 years ago the valve covers and aircleaner from the 351 windsor in my 69 Mustang also got powder coated, that was very well done. Just was in the garage and sprayed  the intake with degreaser. If I had wanted, I could have got of the dirt, and used the original blue paint. It began to appear after the dirt got away. But tomorrow it will be flushed with high pressure cleaner and brought to a buddy to be sandblasted and powder coated gloss black in some weeks

should look good, I love powder coating.  I have all the parts I sell powdered.
