Door panel ideas needed

In the process of getting the door panels redone to match the new seats in the 61. I removed the badly redone door panels to pleasantly find the original panels below. They are in terrible shape, however they will provide a template for the new panels. I need some ideas however. There is a chrome looking trim piece about 1.5"  that goes across the panel and also is on the small quarter panel pieces. I have tried to find some type of replacement, but no luck. I was thinking of laying down some type of stainless or aluminum piece, however, mounting onto the door becomes an issue. Lastly, the chrome looking piece I am talking about, has ribs that give it a more finished appearance. I am looking for some ideas?

Re: Door panel ideas needed

I think I would use aluminum.  It will be easier to work with and lighter which would make it easier to affix to the panel.  I would think you could easily work a piece of aluminum to look more "finished".  I would see about getting some 1/16 sheet aluminum or bar stock and make what you need out of that.  Thats mu $.02 anyway

When you say "work a piece of aluminum to look finished"... I could use some suggestions.

Re: Door panel ideas needed

Got the door panel and quarter panels back. Originally I wanted to try and recreate as close to factory looking as possible. I couldn't locate any type of chrome trim piece to replace the factory one going across the panels, so I decided to just go with a more simpler panel that would look close. I think they will work quite nicely with the Monte Carlo seats I installed.

I think those look really nice.  who needs something shiny when you have the classic look of black and white.

Re: Door panel ideas needed

Yet another follow up posting, this time some of  the new interior. Custom made door panels, seats from a 2003 Monte Carlo and console form a Chev truck.

Re: Door panel ideas needed

Those are the power window switches.
One mistake i made with the panels was that I used a thin plywood backing. I didn't want to use the original "cardboard" type material as I thought it would break apart from the retaining clips the first time I remove the panels for any future service. Problem with the plywood I used, is at 3/16",  it created some install issues. I had trouble getting the window switches to fasten, the panel clips were not designed for that thick of material, the bottom rail on the door that the panels rests in is not wide enough and it is kind of tricky trying to slide a door removal tool between the panel and door lever as it is pretty tight. However, I did have to remove some of the panels after installing them, and they didn't break apart.
