I bought "made in china" flare clips to install trim pieces on my 63 Galaxie. I got it from Dennis Carpenter along with the flare clip pliers. These are a PAIN!! I am breaking some. I am unable to get some to bend at all. Is there a trick?? I've prob broke 1 out of 3 trying to get them in. They look like they're made a litte differently than the originals, and I assume the metal is more brittle. ie less steel in it a more junk metal added?? Maybe I should try heating them with a torch first??

I finished installing the trim on one side of my car today. I broke 50 percent of the clips. None left for the other side. I think I will try to send them back to Dennis Carpenter as "defective" and see if they will send me some more.

probably a good idea. Its amazing how poorly manufactured some things are these days.

Give Jeff a call at Restoration Specialties. I know he has a good assortment of NOS trim clips at good prices. Their site has a lot of stuff, as well as some things that aren't shown.

Dennis Carpenter did credit my account for the "defective" clips. I did not order more. I used the old rusty original clips for the other side. Putting them in I did not break a single one.
