I just purchased a 66 Galaxie, a major project! It came with junk wheels (just to move it around). I plan on getting rims and tires as wide as possible, WITHOUT having to modify the fender wells.
Does anyone on this forum have experience in that area? I heard 10" are too wide; I saw a 67 Galaxie with 8", and they seemed too narrow. So I'm thinking 9", but would definitely want some feedback first. I plan on staying with 15" diameter.
Also, how wide can I go on the tires?
Any feedback is appreciated!

What's wrong with standard stock 15" steel rims, Hankook white stripe tires and deluxe wheel covers?
To many yo yo's put mag wheels with fat tires on a nice car. Soup up a Chevy.
I see a clone of out 59 Galaxie Sunliner on Perry Mason often. That's cool to me.

I'm not opposed to steel rims, In my opinion a big car like the Galaxie looks a little out of proportion with skinny tires, like a 300 pound guy with size 8 shoes. But that's my opinion, taste is a very personal thing!
I like to customize things (I build custom Harleys for a living, mostly with huge tires, LOL), even if it's only a little, just to put my stamp on it.
Also, as far as I know, they ran the Galaxies at Nascar and ran 10" wide rims. Not that I wanted to go that extreme, but I think they look esthetically more pleasing.

I have 10" rims on my 62 and it is a tight fit any more and I would not be able to get then on and off the car. Ss it is I had to role my fender lips and I have to jack up the body of the car and let the suspension dangle to get the wheels on.

Daze, thanks for the info, and the picture! Sure looks like a tight fit! I'm wondering how much Ford changed between the 62 and the 66?
Are you running 10" rims in the rear, AND the front? Or just the rear? If just in the rear, how wide could you go in the front? And how wide of a tire were you able to get on that 10", 285?
