Rack n pinion bracket

Hey dan and daze
On the rack n pinion swap
Why not mount the pass side bracket on the outside of the frame and under
Like on the drivers side??
Would that help or not be worth it for strength??

Re: Rack n pinion bracket

I can think of several reasons.  If you did that the horizontal part of the bracket would be around 8" long instead of the 5" required the way we did it.  This would create extra leverage on the mounts, unless a person drilled and tapped the the frame so that it would except some mounting bolts up through the bottom. (no longer a bolt on at that point as the car would be "modified") The frame would also be in the way and not allow any gusseting.  Not to mention the cost of an 8" piece of angle iron being more than a 5".

All those issues could easily be overcome and mounting it on the outside could be made to work very well, however the real reason is to make it as strong as possible as simply as possible.  A single piece of angle iron with a gusset is both strong and simple.

Re: Rack n pinion bracket

I agree with Daze and that was my thinking when I was mocking it up. But mostly, I was just trying to recreate what was available as a kit. All research I did on the Wurth R&P kit was mostly positive. In other words, people were happy with the product. My thinking was to keep the install the same as the kit and it should work just fine. Due to my lack of experience, I just didn't want to deviate for fear of something not working, breaking or having to fix later.
