64 Galaxie Seatbelts

I recently purchased a 64 Galaxie 500XL that has no seatbelts.  The previous owner said seatbelts were an option that year.  If anyone can help me, I have a couple questions to ask. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.  If you own a 64 Galaxie with seatbelts, pic would be Awesome.

1. How did the seatbelts attach to the car? and was that attachment put in the car even if seatbelts were not?
2.  How can I find original seatbelts or aftermarket that look and attach the same as OEM?
3. What was the original Length?

Thanks everyone,
Semion

Re: 64 Galaxie Seatbelts

I don't have a 64 but I can still answer some of your questions, as I have a 62 and the floor pans are basically the same:

1. How did the seatbelts attach to the car? and was that attachment put in the car even if seatbelts were not?

There are threaded nuts attached to the underside of the floor pan in several locations to anchor the seatbelts.

2.  How can I find original seatbelts or aftermarket that look and attach the same as OEM?

I don't think I would look for original seatbelts; reason being is that older seatbelts will not be a strong and new ones.  As the material used to make the straps ages its over all strength goes down.  I ordered my seatbelts out of a Mustang parts catalog.  They can be gotten in lots of different colors. I order from Mustang suppliers for a lot of different parts because in many cases they are the same exact part but cheaper in the Mustang catalog.

3. What was the original Length?

Aftermarket seatbelts are extra long so they can be cut to length.

Re: 64 Galaxie Seatbelts

Thanks for the info Daze.  There is a Open ring (about the size of a quarter or just a little smaller) next to the driver side seat on the floor, but not on the passenger side.  I thought that might be a seat belt attachment but wasn't sure.  Do you have to pull the carpet to find these screw holes?

Re: 64 Galaxie Seatbelts

When I do new carpet installs I lay the carpet then locate the approximate position of the holes by looking under the car and then I use an ice pick to actually find the holes through the carpet.

Re: 64 Galaxie Seatbelts

Definitely look at the floor from the bottom, there should be reinforced areas where the belts attach. Front and back.

If possible, track down the shouldered bolts that the factory used. They fit snug through the seat belt mounting tab and threaded right into the floor itself. Look at Wesco's site, they have a big selection of belts and should be close to what your Ford came with. Don't use old belts either, they're not as nearly safe as new ones.
