Does anyone have a pair OR know who has a pair of  the early style loop through  seat belts for a 59 ?

Re: Vintage Seat Belts

The Dearborn parts catalog has vintage seat belts, metal to metal with the lift buckle for $24. a set
QUESTION:  I plan on punching the hole through the carpet and the floor pan.  Drilling will tear up the carpet.
is that kosher?  The catalog wants $10. per set for the hardware.  I plan on buying stainless
                      hardware at ACE.

Re: Vintage Seat Belts

I'd say to cut the carpet with a knife and keep the spinning drill bit away from any threads of the carpet. Cut the carpet in a "X" pattern, the same way you would if installing a new carpet, and tape back the corners to stay clear of the drill bit.

Re: Vintage Seat Belts

Too Short??   The new seat belts installed without a problem.  They fit my skinny body just fine.  However.......
they would not fit my less then skinny brother-in-law yesterday.  Back to the Dearborn catalog...ie MACS.
The belts with the metal lift up buckle, come in one length.  No reply to my email....yet.

Re: Vintage Seat Belts

I just noticed you said you were going to use hardware store stainless steel hardware. I would not want to see that stainless hardware on a critical safety component, like seat belts. I believe you should use Grade 8 hardware, stainless steel bolts, from my understanding, are typically around a Grade 2 rating, certainly weaker than Grade 5, so I'd suggest closer consideration on the hardware. FWIW.

Re: Vintage Seat Belts

The seat belts included the correct hardware that I used.
                             HOWEVER
They are not the correct seat belts for the car.  They are too short for anyone greater then skinny me.
The buckle barely hangs over the edge of the seat.  MACS offered a credit if I returned them.
I need the correct length...not a credit.     AND  the Galaxie went into storage for it's 5 month
winters nap yesterday afternoon.  This project is on hold for the next 5 months+

Re: Vintage Seat Belts

I went with Wesco's belts on my car and they have different lengths (one size fits most...). Not so sure if that option exists in the repro belt market. Wesco does have buckle designs that may be close to stock (lift type), unless you want to build a 100 point car.
