1970 XL Floor Console removal

Hi everyone. I have a 1970 XL with auto transmission FMX to be exact. It has factory buckets and floor shift console. I am restoring it back to pretty much stock. I am removing the interior and I need some help removing the console. How is that done. By the way I have heard it called a horse shoe hand. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Brian

Re: 1970 XL Floor Console removal

The plastic shifter handle comes off with removal of the four screws on the inside of the horseshoe. There a couple of screws in the bottom of the console storage compartment. There should be more screws, but it has been a long time since I've had my console out. There may be screws in, or around the ash tray at the back end, and there may be screws along the sides, but I don't remember. There is probably a hook at the front with the fasteners at the rear, but just go slow and don't force things because you'll have a heck of a time finding parts if you break anything.
