All, hoping for some suggestions of what to look out for as I want to swap my two speed automatic transmission for a c4. I have a 1963 289 4v engine and the two speed does not do it justice. I believe I need to find a five bolt bellhousing. Will the drive shaft need to be modified for this swap? Any other items to watch out for as I proceed? Thanks

I am sure you already have but incase you haven't, count the bolts on your bell. Yes a 63 should have a 5 bolt however in the life of the car the engine might have been swapped out and the 6 bolt is far more common so double check. The drive line and the transmission crossmember with both probably need to be reworked.

In fact because of rarity the 5 bolt bell will be a lot more $$ than than a 6 bolt. You are already modifying the car away from original by putting in the c4, so if it was me I would try to find a mid 70s Granada parts car with 302 and c4 or a mid 80s grand Marquees with 302 or 351 and AOD. You could probably pick up the parts car for the same $$ you could get out of the 5-bolt 289 and then you would have a bigger engine and a better trans. Just a thought.
