I hope the title doesn't get me booted, just how I feel somtimes.
I think there are two items on a car that are the hardest to choose, 1 the exhaust system IE: mufflers and
where to drop the tips...
the other is the wheels. what size wheel, what size tire, white wall or no white wall.
chrome, colored, and you only get the one shot at it, unless you got money...
So i'm screwed right now, my front rotors are 5 x 5" but my backs are 5 x 4.5"
1. I could and would buy new front rotors that are 5 x 4.5"
2. I could as a cost saving buy a pair of wheel adapters for the rear going to a 5 x 5"
the second aption is much cheaper by $$$$
I was down the the local wreaking yard looking for a set of CV 16 or 17" wheels off of a cop car, none
around today, and that yard is getting realy dirty... yes I know its a junk yard, but they use to leave the wheels
on the car, now they take them off and who knows what your picking up..
but I can't keep going down to any of the yards that are close and waiting to find the right set of rims
So my question is does anyone have a real disagreement with using the wheel adapters?
there under $50 for a pair, 1.25" thick... I have plenty of room in the wheel wells...
for my current wheels and tires...
of course if I could find a pair of axle shafts for the stock 9" rear end with 5 x 5" bolt patterns... let me know
ASAP, I really need to get this car on the road..
28 spline
Thanks guys

Dave,
Sounds like things may not be going your way right now. From personal experience and hitting road blocks myself at times, I find the best thing to do is walk away for a while. I was talking to a car builder friend recently about some things I did and how I will have to make changes after I thought I was done. After expressing some frustration he replied, " that's Hot Rodding", you try stuff and sometimes it just doesn't work so you try again. I'm not a mechanic or Chip Foose so I can't expect to get it right the first time, every time!
If I were in your shoes, I would change out your front spindles and rotors to 4.5 X 5 or get a disc brake kit to use with the stock spindles. As far as the rims and exhaust go, I found the best thing to do is to attend car shows and see what others do and try to find something I think looks good. Bottom line is your building a car for yourself so the decisions you make are for you alone, not for what others may like. Good luck.

Hi Dan, well can't get much worse, just deleted about 75 words
I had bought new rotors off of Ebay... the seller said and showed in a chart that they fit a 77 Ranchero
what he did not know is a 5 x 5 or 5 x 4.50 fit the same spindle...
these are AC Delco 18A11 but the correct part should be 18A14...
Also they only sent one rotor so far, I've contacted the seller... of course he never replied to my
questions before I made the buy.. I did search the net for 2 days and could never get a bolt pattern for
these rotors...
I always have a harder time working on my own cars then those of others...
Like I said, I'm going with the adapter, since my wheels are 5 x 5 I won't need to buy new wheels...
later I can find and buy the right axle and bolt pattern... for 5 x 5 ..
thanks for the input...
Best
Dave

sandoc
look for 72 thunderbird rotors, if i remember right they use the bigger bearing like the 5x5 rotors , so should fit your
spindles but have the 5 x 4.5 bolt spacing
