Miracle find at the salvage

Moving along with the 4.6 install in the 61. In the process of hooking up the rad hoses. Going from the 4.6 outlet which is on the driver side of the engine pointing slightly upwards, have to turn downward 90 degrees, go 10 inches and then turn forward 90 degrees again to join of up with the lower rad outlet. On top of this, the hose has to have a "T" of a smaller diameter hose to go to the antifreeze reservoir I mounted on the inner fender. The 4.6 radiators don't have rad caps, they use the reservoir to add antifreeze to the engine. Much like the overflow tanks mounted on the FE engines. I was thinking that I was going to have to use three rad hoses to make the one I need and splice them all together. Until what I found at the salvage the other day.
Pic of the outlet on the 4.6(just below power steering reservoir) and the reservoir(on the inner fender), you can't see the lower rad hose outlet:
Lower rad hose I found off of a 2005 Lincoln which will work perfectly. I can't believe my luck!

Re: Miracle find at the salvage

Nice find!! Some times the car gods smile down on us.  Although in your case I think it sounds like hard work in looking for the right part is a big part of why you were able to find it.

I had a similar situation with putting the 302 in my 62.  The Windsor family of engines was not an option until 63 and the mounts on the cross bar "k member" are different starting in 63.  I had made it work by bolting a plate to the top of a set of 63 mounts, but never liked the solution.  As luck would have it I watched an episode of HP TV and they were working on a Fox body Mustang.  They were installing a new engine and the mounts on that install looked like they might just work.  Sure enough when i tried it the mounts allowed me to drop the 302 right in.

I hope those car gods keep smiling...getting close to taking on the wiring issue to get the 4.6 running.

Re: Miracle find at the salvage

Wiring is my next and last piece of the puzzle I hope. I thought I would have that done by now but I just spent a ton on tires and rims so the wiring issue will have to wait untill the fall. I was going to go with either a Ron Francis kit and try to do myself or just hire a guy that knows how to do it. I made contact with a hotrod guy here who said he would do it, so either way, this fall it will be done.
Would like to hear more about how you are progressing with that. Sorry, but I can't see how that job could be "fun stuff".lol
Are you using the factory harness? Are you eliminating all of the emission stuff? Did you have to deal with "PATS"? Lot's more questions...please feel free to share...thanks.

Re: Miracle find at the salvage

Thanks for the offer but mine is a 2002, SOHC, coil on plugs and PATS. I think there would be too many differences. You are fortunate to have knowledgable friends to help you out. Good luck getting it going. Keep us posted!
