I confess I didn't know you could change ride height with different spindles..can you explain more for me??
And I want to have more fun than school girls spreading gossip!

there are two types of drop spindles. The first is a spindle from a donor car that "works" and has the effect of lowering the front end. Some use Granada spindles on our cars to achieve a drop. Going with a Junk yard donor car option is cost effective however the Problem with this is there is a lot of geometry that goes into spindles and using a donor car spindle may have the affect you want in ride height but it usually has adverse effects on handling.
The second type of drop spindle is one where the OEM spindle is used as a basis to redesign a new spindle that has the correct geometry but the bearing shaft is placed in a higher location which will drop the cars ride height. Well this is the better way to do it there is a lot involved in having spindles cast as a new part so companies that sell them usually charge a lot.

These photos should help you understand the concept of drop spindles.

Ok,I get that now.Again it looks like the coil over system is the best option for me . Thank you guys again for the help and information.
Being able to ask questions and get answers without being made to feel stupid is the reason forums like this one seems to be growing. Those of us who are relatively new appreciate it.
Thx,Scott

I'm using Moog Aerostar front colis on my '59 and I expect a 3" drop when the power train is in. Supposedly the ride is improved. I have gas shocks and installed a GM type set of discs up front (not Scarebird, but he's the way to go).
If you know your coil outer diameter and the wire size, look in an online Moog spring catalog. Like this one.
Important, the coil ends have to be the same as what you have. I'd look for something maybe 3-4" shorter with a slightly higher spring rate than stock.

I hate to be the dark cloud here, but a while back I did some research on cutting/swapping out coil springs to lower my Galaxie. I came across an article where I guy with a 64 Galaxie swapped out his coil springs with Aerostar coils. From what I remember the specs for both springs were almost the same, however the Aerostar coil was shorter. The expected drop was severe and the front of the car almost dragged on the ground. I would be cautious about doing that swap from what I have read. Considering the size and weight of the 59 and 64 Galaxies, I would expect the results may be similar for the 59? The owner ended up removing the coils. The article was on Jalopyjournal.com. If you do a search for 64 Galaxie Aerostar coil spring swap the article should be there. Included are before and after pictures of the swap. If you can't locate it, let me know, I may be able to post a picture. Good luck.

Any spring listing for Fords 1949-1959 that I've seen in catalogs have always been the same part number. I've seen before and after pictures of the 1959 Ford with the Aerostar coils in them, so I went with it. I agree that they are probably too short for something like a '64.

That rake should get the leaves off the ground!
