I want to replace the shocks on my 66 Galaxie. It seems straightforward, but I need to know how difficult it might be. The local shop wants $400.
The first 2 pics are of the PS and the last is the DS.

Jay, shock replacement is a piece of cake. I cannot believe a shop charges 400 bucks. Must be some special stuff. Tell you what,,, I'll do it for 395 and not even complain, LOL,LOL,LOL Seriously man, you can do it. Check the tool sec of parts store and see if they have a shock tool that holds the stem while you loosen the nut. Tool resembles a square "D". If you can't find one, I'll loan you mine. DON'T pay 400, no way no how. Don

Is this the tool?

I just use a 3/8 drive high speed "zip gun" and feather the throttle, works the nut right off. Easiest way if you've got access to air tools.

I have air tools. I'll apply PBlaster to the threads and give it a try.

Wow 400 for an hours work tops. Must be nice. What kind of shocks are you putting on?

Yeah, $400 sounded a bit high, even if it was for all 4 shocks. I was thinking I'd just get Monroe or Gabriel shocks, nothing too expensive. If I can get them out, I should be able to get new ones in. I'm worried that I can't get the car high enough off the ground to slide the shock out.

Well that's what I was gonna say. You beat me to it. I used KYB Gas Adjust shocks on mine, and they ride real well. They are not adjustable as the name might imply, though.

So, are these bolts removable or fixed in place?
