Rad hose mismatch

Trying to figure out the easiest way to get around two different rad hose sizes. The 4.6 uses 1.5" I.D. rad hose and the stock rad uses a 1.75" I.D. hose. I was hoping to use the stock rad. My thinking is that if it can keep an FE block cool, it should be able to cool that 4.6. In addition the rad is in great shape. Any simple way to make this work?

Re: Rad hose mismatch

your only talking a .25" difference so get a 1.5" hose and stretch it over the 1.75" nipple.  You may need to apply a thin coat of oil, or WD40 to the larger nipple to get it to fit.  Biggest advantage of going with the 1.5" hose is it should be shaped to clear the accessories on that 4.6L engine.

Re: Rad hose mismatch

Thanks...too easy. I don't know why, but I am always trying to do things the hard way, when there always seems to be an easier way.

Re: Rad hose mismatch

I know what you mean.  There have been lots of times where I was banning my head against a project only to find a simple solution that had been staring me in the face the entire time.  Some times a fresh set of eyes gets you what you need, other times its time, walking away and comeing back to it later with a fresh perspective will allow a solution to present it self.  Over all thats why I love forums, with all the different levels of ability and experiences there are so many unique ways to look at a project that there are not many problems we can't solve.

I did that once on a Ford Maverick.  Rad hose was smaller than the radiator nipple.  Used some dish soap and with some grunting and a few #%$@!!!!!'s  I got it on.   One other thought maybe if you use the larger hose,  Take a 1.5" cut of the 1 1/2 hose and slip it on with some RTV on the fitting.  The 1 3/4 may slip over that  and should be able to clamp it normally.  Not as much stress on the Radiator fitting that way if I understand what your wanting to do.
 Good Luck!!
