I have a 1968 Galaxie 500 Convertible that is undergoing a restoration. I have decided that since this is just going to be my own cruising car and not a show or auction car, I am going to update a few things about it. I have already looked into things like fuel injection and disk breaks and now I'm wondering about changing out the original equipment lap belts for shoulder belts. There is no place on the side of the car to mount the top of the shoulder part of the belt. Has anyone ever tried mounting it in the top of the seat? I am having the seats reupholstered anyway so I was going to see if I can attach the top point of the shoulder belt inside. These are pretty heavy, substantial seats so I think there should be enough frame available for a secure mounting location. Any thoughts?

I know that the Chrylser Sebring has that set-up. I looked at a set. I would think you would have to weld in some sort of a plate to mount the re-coil mechanism to.
