Retainer T bolts in late model 9 in rear

Have a late model 31 spline  9 In rear housing 3/8 in. T bolts want to replace them with good ARP bolts $60.00 What if I drill them out to 1/2 In. like the old  housings  and use cheaper SS bolt  I doin't know the hardness of the T-bolts
and all that is important is the shear factor any ideas?

Re: Retainer T bolts in late model 9 in rear

Hardware store stainless steel bolts are typically not very strong, so be careful what you use. My understanding is that regular SS bolts are only grade two, or three fasteners. You need special alloy to get high strength stainless, so the ARP fasteners may be you best bet if you want stronger than stock.

I'm afraid you are right I know enough to stay away from hardware SS bolts but hopeing going from 3/8 to 1/2 In.
and a fair grade of SS would work I do not want a weak bolt, will stay with the stock T-bolt before I do that.
Thanks for the info.
