Hello new member. I tried the search feature got no hits. My queastion is. I have a "none" 9 inch in my 68. It has a rear mounted cover. What rear axle is this? I also have a hammered parts car with a 9 inch. The 9 inch seems like the better opption. But has the smaller brake shoes. And the first axle has mostly new parts. So second queastion. Will the c-clip stlye axle backing plates and brakes work on the 9 inch. Thanks.

I expect you have the "WER" rear, like I have on my car. It is likely open diff with 2.75 gears, which was pretty common for that set up. Here is a link to info on Ford rear ends.
Look on some of the aftermarket brake sites, Wilwood, Stainless Steel Brakes, etc., for info on the various bolt patterns of the 9" rear end end plates, there are three, big bearing, small bearing and Torino. Google images may get you there, too. The WER may, or may not, be similar to one of those, so you'll have to do some measuring to see. The 9" isn't necessarily a better axel, or choice for your car. If you want to change gear ratios and/or add a locking differential, then there will be more parts available for the 9" over the 8 3/4" non-removable center type axel.

Thank you very much. I will keep the 9 inch for a spare right now.
