Bearing or Bushing?

Hi, need some advice. I have to provide support for the steering shaft inside the steering column on the 61 to make it work properly with the rack and pinon steering swap. The support is needed at the flange end of the column. I have two options. I was able to find two bushings to make work. If I slide the smaller bushing into the larger bushing, both end up making the correct diameters to work. My other option is to use the flanged bearing. In order to use the flanged bearing I need to trim off about 3/8ths inch off the end of the steering column. The bearing fits tight in the column but does have a very small amount of play on the steering shaft. The bushings fit better and I wouldn't have to cut the column so a little easier to do. Any thoughts?

Re: Bearing or Bushing?

"Don't nail when you can use screws, don't use screws when you can bolt, and don't bolt when you can weld"

Translation I always use bearings over bushings if I can.
