Dual Master Cylinder change

Re: My Grandmother's 1965 Galaxie reno from a single master cylinder to dual. The dual master cylinder has different ports than the one we took out and no one makes any kind of adapter to fit the existing plug into the new cylinder.  Still looking into it but it seems we may have to redo all the lines after all and maybe even change out the new wheel cylinders to 1967 types since they have larger brake lines and so larger ports than the 1965.

Suggestions?

Re: Dual Master Cylinder change

We had the same issue with my wife's 65 Mustang when we upgraded the brake system.  I found an inline fitting to adapt the original 3/8 thread brake line to 7/16 of the new master cylinder at Speedway Motors. You're probably looking for the IFM (inverted flare male) to IFF (inverted flare female) adapter in the BRAKES section of the catalog.
Part number 910-3183-3/8  or 910-3183-7/16 will take you from 7/16 IFF to 3/8 IFM or 3/8 IFF to 7/16 IFM

They have other sizes but my guess is one of these will help you.  If not they have several other fittings.  Only place I could find them.

Re: Dual Master Cylinder change

If you can locate someone in your area that sells Fairview fittings, they have all kinds of fittings. If they don't have it, good chance nobody else has. Anyone selling hydraulic hoses probably has access to Fairview fittings. Good luck.

Re: Dual Master Cylinder change

I might be missing something, but unless I'm reading this wrong, why not just cut the flare off and remake it
with new fitting. I did this on my 62 going to 79 licoln dual master, also the brake lines on the lincoln
and even my 77 Ranchero are different sizes...

Re: Dual Master Cylinder change

Sanddoc has a good point here....If you have enough brake line length you could use a tube cutter to trim off the end, find another fitting that fits BOTH the tube diameter and the new threads on the master cylinder and use a flare tool to reshape the end of the line.

Try NAPA for the fittings first, if not new lines can be made up with a little practice. You will have to make up something for the rear line most likely. That you can remove from the junction block and cap it off, feed the center of the junction block from the front master line.
