62 galaxie leaf spring removel

Started to remove the rear leafs, but that front bolt is not being friendly.
and its a size 13mm  1/2 or 9/16 do not work
is it just a bolt into the frame or is there a hidden nut behind it.
I put my 18" breaker bar on it, and it did not want to move.
BTW the leafs and all parts will be for sale... in the near future

Re: 62 galaxie leaf spring removel

There should be an access hole on the inside of the frame. I recall using a deep socket through that hole to get at the nut, as the hanger stud(bolt) is pretty long leaving lots of exposed thread. My bolts were all standard thread, no metric, I can't remember what size. I used an impact to get things going, then it was pretty easy after that.

Re: 62 galaxie leaf spring removel

Hi Daze
Not yet, but I did get the (nut) off   11/16  deep socket
the outside head is 6 sided and a 13 metric fits it. So that makes me think its not a
threaded, just needs to be knocked out...have not got around to that yet.
Sat, I was on my way to visit some friends, and I stopped for gas, my 74 Dart would
not restart...
had it towed home, did a voltage test and had no voltage after the balast .
I was think of switching that old system over to the GM HEI like I did on the
wagon, so I did the swap. now have voltage everywhere there should be, but the car
wont start, Turns over great.. getting  11 + - voltage at the right spots, just not to the plugs.
And of course I'm also working on the house,, the outside really needs work under the
eve's.
So tomorrow I'll check on the Dart, then try and get the pin out of the springs.
 I'll add more after tomorrow.
best

Re: 62 galaxie leaf spring removel

I don't recall that bolt be threaded into the frame rail. Come to think of it, I think I left the nut on the end of that stud and used a long center punch thru the frame rail and gave it a few wacks with the hammer and she popped right out. I did this about 8 years ago, sorry couldn't remember all of the details!
