switch cleaning?

Need to clean some window switches. Anybody have experience with this? Switch is sealed closed, can't open it, was wondering if they can be cleaned? I was wondering if it could be soaked in some type of cleaner?

Re: switch cleaning?

I would be very cautious about soaking it in any type of solvent to disolve corrosion on the electrical contacts, etc. You likely would have some unintended consequesnces such as the solvent attacking the integrity of the plastic parts.

Is there an issue with the functionality of the switch ?

Re: switch cleaning?

More of a prevenative measure. Last time I ran the windows(25 years ago), one of the switches was giving me some grief.  I have the interior gutted and was hoping I could clean them up now, if there was a way. I would rather deal with the switches now, instead of putting everything back together only to have to start taking stuff apart later.

Re: switch cleaning?

If you could open them you could use some contact cleaning solution.  It is a spray designed specifically for switches and other contacts.  Radio shack used to have but I don't know if they still carry it.

Re: switch cleaning?

I have some electrical contact cleaner...problem is the switch is a sealed unit, can't access the internals

Re: switch cleaning?

Are there any options to replace it?
