Console automatic car owners - '65, '66, '67 - help me out

I am getting serious about finding the solution to an ongoing issue I've had since I bought my '66 Mercury S55 and I found this forum in my search. It's not the caliber of many of the other issues I've overcome on this car but it has risen to the top of the list as the others have been solved.
My S55 is a 2dr console automatic car that shares consoles with the '66 Galaxies. The console lid has been missing the latch since I acquired the car in 2005 - if you have sat in one of these cars then you know they have a push button latch for this lid similar to the push button glove box latches used on many FoMoCo cars.
I am looking for the correct part number for this latch so I can cross this off the list. I found a few different latches listed a glove box latches listed on one of the Mustang sites and ordered one that I thought would be correct, but it turned out to be the wrong height and won't latch to the 'striker loop' that is inside the compartment.
If anyone can help me identify the correct latch I'd be grateful. As I mentioned, I know the '66 Galaxie console was identical - I'm not certain about other years. If a picture of your 'striker loop' is available that would help me too - I want to be certain that mine is correct.

Glad to find this forum and I'm hopeful there's someone who has the information I need.

David

First of all welcome to the forum!!  I did some looking and could not find much either but I did see this post on another forum.

Sounds like you were on the correct track going with the Mustang parts.  Got any pix of that you have so maybe we can figure out a way to get it working with the parts you already have??

Thank you for the welcome and the reply to my questions. It's good to know that someone else went the same route as I did and fit a Mustang latch on their console.

I don't have a picture but I can easily describe what the problem with the fit is. The latch I picked up bolts in correctly and the push button protrudes the right amount through the console lid, but doesn't engage the striker bar correctly to latch closed. The bar is slotted where it attaches to the interior face of the tray so it can be adjusted up or down, but we've tried it in all positions with no luck.

I've compared this new latch to the latch that is in my glove box door and they differ in height (I also tried the glove box latch in the console and it is not correct) so I'm guessing that all of the latches of this type share common parts and operation, but differ in height.

I am wondering if my striker bar is correct - it looks like it is an original piece, but who can know on a ~50 year old car. I was hoping to find out the part number for the correct latch (and get one) which will then tell me if the striker bar is actually right or not.

Do you know of a parts diagram for the console Galaxies?

Thank you for this part number. I'm searching one out using the number you've listed.

Exactly what I needed.
