Re: 1961 Fairlane 500 Restoration

I was able to track down the paint used by the shop in Chicago.  The original paint code is "K"

This is the paint I purchased from a local paint shop.

The dash and glove box door were painted by the shop in Chicago.

I installed the Fairlane 500 script on the glove box door.  Now it's officially a Fairlane 500.

A local body shop agreed to paint the door jambs and underside of hood and deck lid.  For some reason the shop in Chicago painted the underside of the hood black instead of the Algiers Bronze.  I also had the parts of the front fenders painted that are only visible when the hood is open.  They also painted the edges of the doors.

I installed new rubber pieces to the inner fenders.  The factory installed them with staples and the new rubber pieces come with new staples.  They work but it's time consuming to install them.  Best to have your wife pack you a lunch if you decide to install new staples.

Ford used some type of caulking during the assembly of the inner fenders, fenders and core support.  I scraped off the old caulking before adding new caulking.

Here is the caulking that I used.

Left fender installed.

Right fender installed.

I used the original bolts that all have this neat NL logo on them.

Working on headlight buckets next.
