Axle shaft question

I am trying to find a passenger side axle shaft for my 61 Galaxie. I located an axle out of a 66 Galaxie. The owner indicated that it is a large bearing axle, mine is a small bearing. He also indicated the spline count and total length are the same.
Here is my question:
Can the large bearing axle shaft be made to work? Can the bearing end of the axle be machined down to accept the smaller bearing. About an 1/8th of an inch difference in diameter between the two.
Would rather find correct axle but having trouble locating one around here.

Re: Axle shaft question

I don't see why it wouldn't work if everything else is the same, the axle would have to be machined or ground and would need to be to the correct size, for the bearing and the seal. Another possible way is if you could find a bearing and seal with the correct OD but with a larger ID to fit the axle.

Re: Axle shaft question

Thanks. I am considering both of those options. I always feel better taking on a project when someone else has gone down that same road before me.
