61 Galaxie Sunliner Convertible

As I now have my 390 rebuilt and mated up to a rebuilt 4 speed top loader, I thought I start this thread as I'm nearing the point of getting the motor/trans back into the car once I've tracked down a couple of more parts I need.  I plan to post some pics soon too.  The first two issues I have to deal with are:
1. will I have clearance for the Z-bar as the motor has 61 date coded cast iron shorty exhaust manifold?  I already know I will need custom exhaust down tubes as the OEM weren't going to align with them
2. getting the yoke off the drive shaft as the drive shaft passes through the frame and it doesn't look like I can disconnect it from the rear end to get it out of the way when the motor/trans go in. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Standby for more to come and thanks in advance

Re: 61 Galaxie Sunliner Convertible

Dave, I just finished a 4.6 and 4R70W in a 61 Sunliner. A new drive shaft was made. You can check out the post by entering "Need driveshaft Advise" in the search bar. I got some bad advise from a driveline shop and so I got really confused. Got some great advise on this forum to get me back on track. I understand from your question that you are wondering about removing the drivehsaft? Just remove the u-bolts from the u-joint, push the yoke into the tranny so that the u-joints clear the pinion yoke and then slide the yoke and drivehsaft out of the transmission. Sorry if I misunderstood your question.
