fuel guage

Hey guys, I've recently acquired a 67 galaxie fastback..And today I'm going to try and tackle the fuel gauge.
Here's the deal.,when you turn the key on the needle goes all the way to full.
Key off..back down to empty. Does this most commonly happen from a bad ground??
Any help is appreciated as always..Scott.

Re: fuel guage

the problem is to good a ground  no really you have a short some where that is fully grounding out the system.  It is either in the wire going to the sending unit or the sending unit it self.  Disconnect the the wire from the sending unit and turn the key.  if the guage pegs there is a short somewhere between the sending unit and the gague if nothing happens you have a bad sending unit.

Re: fuel guage

that is correct.  when you install the new one keep in mind that it will need to be calibrated by bending the float arm or it will not read correctly.
